The college was one of the only state institutions that taught Hospitality. When I was considering transferring to the city, I picked up Public Relations as my second degree. I love the freedom both career paths give me in that there is a vast amount of career options. I would not have found them without attending SUNY Plattsburgh. Since I have been here I felt I’ve grown above and beyond my expectations. I’m on the Dean's List as well as apart of Eta Sigma Delta, an international honor society that recognizes academic achievement among hospitality tourism students.
The department's mission statement is to prepare students to be ethical, competent, and culturally aware leaders and professionals in the global hospitality industry. I have always known I wanted my career field to be culturally diffused. The program says it combines theory with hands-on experience in food service, lodging, tourism, international hospitality, marketing leadership, management and accounting.
As a Public Relations major furthered and advanced my writing skills. Ideally, I am planning to combine skills from both educations into a new career. Being a very good people-person and an enthusiastic learner, I could not imagine a better major for me.
