Job Experiences/Educational Background

Growing up I was exposed to many different jobs that helped me hone the skills i have learned in school. I started off working for a corporation as a sales associate at the General Nutrition Center. My duties at this job required selling supplements to customers while informing them of what the supplements do to better help their overall health. At this job I got to use my people skills to its full potential. Dealing with the customers one on one helped be became a good public speaker and a persuasive speaker as well.

During my time working at GNC I also worked part time for the NYS Assemblyman Thomas Alfano. This job sparked my creative side requiring me to create event flyers and programs, and run community events. This job put my creative skills to work and helped with my community relations. Follow these previous jobs I became the Public Relation Manager for OLV Bible Camp. My responsibilities as public relations manager included running the camp website, creating take home flyers for parents, taking photos, and organizing events.

I was able to excel at all my previous jobs due to the classes i took at SUNY Plattsburgh as a Public Relations major. Some classes include Business and Professional Speaking, Speech Writing, Web Design, Organizational Communication, and Advertising. These classes gave me speaking and writing skills, along with the skill to think and react with a creative mind. My experience at SUNY Plattsburgh has been an extremely educational one.

Career Aspirations

My career aspirations are to become a Public Relations manager for a big firm, or a sports franchise. I have always been a big fan and enthusiast of sports, and to become a public relations manager for a franchise is a personal goal of mine. I work hard every day to better myself in the field of public relations, whether it is in class, the workplace, or in my social life. There is always room for improvement I keep telling myself. My plans for the future as of now consist of first getting an internship with a public relations firm.

I am choosing to intern at a firm, because I believe they truly show you the basics and fundamentals of what public relations really is. I can get the basic experience I need at a firm. Since I am graduating in May 2012, I will be hoping to stay with the firm I intern with in the form of a job opportunity. I plan to take my internship seriously and work to the best of my abilities and bring my skills and knowledge to help better the firm.

Hobbies and Interests

My hobbies include sports, and making videos. I have always been an avid sports fan, and athlete as well. I played baseball and football in high school, and went on to play baseball in college as well. I believe ones participation in sports provides them with important life, and workplace lessons. Some of these lessons include working as a team and with others, and thinking quickly on the spot. Sports have taught me how to communicate with other to get the best possible result, in the case of sports, winning. Sports has also taught me how to think quickly and on my toes. Taking the knowledge acquired from sports into the workplace can benefit my work efficiency.

As well as sports, I am largely in to making films. Most of these films require funny short stories of everyday events. I can also translate this hobby to benefit me in the workplace. Public relations is a that relies greatly on social media, and media in general. Using film editing software can help create a specific medium for a message to be heard or in the ways of advertising, a product to be pitched. Both my hobbies gave me skills that can translate into the workplace.
