Hello!  My name is Stephen Lynch and I am a student in the SUNY Plattsburgh Masters of Science Teaching program.  My grade level and content specialization will be adolescent Biology.  I will be graduating with an MST in December of 2018.

In 2016, I made the bold decision to leave behind a career in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical sciences sector in favor of a career in adolescent education.  Although my work in biotechnology was often intellectually stimulating and challenging, at the end of the day, I did not find this work to be particularly emotionally fulfilling, and I knew that I needed a change.  My decision to make such a drastic career change was motivated by my experiences in teaching– most notably: I had had the opportunity to teach pharmacy degree students at Long Island University (brooklyn, NY) for two semesters.  The level of fulfillment that I obtained from this teaching experience was truly life-changing, and it was this ‘a-ha’ moment that reoriented me towards a path that allowed me to continue sharing my love of learning and my passion for science with young people.  Tellingly, my father was also a N.Y.C. public school teacher for almost 30 years, and my mother has a background in education, so you might also say that teaching is “in my blood”.

In my free time, I enjoy hiking and cross-country skiing with my family, biking, listening to music, and reading.
