My name is Samantha Marie Lavigne.
I went to high school at Chazy Central Rural School, in the small town of Chazy.
CCRS is a K-12 school, with about 600 students total.
My graduating class was one of the largest for Chazy, with 54 graduates.
I think it is important to point this out because Chazy is a small tight knit community, that has helped shaped who I am today.
It taught me that as a teacher, it is important to get to know your students, their strengths and weaknesses.
It is important to get students to succeed, but first and foremost they are adolescents before they are your students.
In order to get them to learn, you first have to get them to put aside what is going on in their lives and pay attention!
Being in larger class-sizes at SUNY
Plattsburgh only reinforced how important it is for teachers to get
to know their students.
Throughout my years in high school, I also realized how much of an impact extra-curricular activities can have on students.
I played both soccer and basketball along with being a member in a few clubs.
Sports helped me to become interested in staying in school and doing well.
If students come to school motivated, and really want to be there, it provides for a better learning environment.
