BROADCASTING, CABLE, THE INTERNET, AND BEYOND

The development of the internet has had a large impact in society. It has provided us with information, a way of communication, and a way to have fun. The internet has evolved immensely over time. When the computer first came out the size was huge, but nowadays you can get a computer that will fit in your lap. The first couple offering services included CEEFAX, AOL, and Prodigy.  The only one that is familiar to me is AOL. All offered different services. The services were very slow, especially compared with how they are today. More and more people started to buy computers, and the technology continued to advance. They went from having black and white screens to colored screens and greater graphics. People could surf the net and link to a page that was half way around the world. People within society started to make their own websites using HTML. This great invention has changed the world we live in and in such a short period of time. This invention has benefited me personally and will benefit me professionally. Personally, I am able to stay connected with friends I graduated with and family while I am away at college. Although when I start a family I will be nervous because there is a lot of negative stuff on the internet that is easily accessible.  When I become a teacher, I will be able to surf the web for ideas for lesson plans and other information that will better me as a teacher.

MASS MEDIA LAW-PLAGIARISM

With the increase in the use of the internet, there has also been an increase in plagiarism. Because there is so much information that is easily accessible, it makes it easy for people to copy and paste text right into their papers, website, and projects. Plagiarism is a big deal and it is not ok. There are so many rules and regulations about what is right and what is not, that it is difficult. I did not know most of the rules. Being a teacher I am going to have to make sure my students are not taking information that is not their own. It will be important for me to make sure my students understand what plagiarism is and how much trouble they can get in if they do it.

PODCASTING TO THE WORLD

The widespread interest in pod casting has helped musicians get noticed, it allows for individuals to broadcast their own radio stations, and for individuals to publicize their information. A pod cast has endless possibilities. I have been unaware of the popularity of pod casts. I think it is amazing that people can run their own radio or play their music basically without difficulty.

SECTION 508

I believe that section 508 is very important. Just because a person has a disability doesn’t mean that they are totally inept.  I personally know many people with disabilities that use a computer every day. I had no idea that this law was implemented, but I am glad it is. All information should be available for everyone. There should be no barriers on someone just trying to educate themselves.
