Expectations
Children are expected to follow the school and classroom rules established. In the beginning of the year, time is spent going over behavior expectations and selecting the most important to include in a classroom contract. Students are asked to sign the contract to indicate their understanding and acceptance of rules and consequences if not obeyed. The poster sized contract is then displayed for all to refer to and serve as a reminder. Children who do not follow the rules will get a verbal warning. If the behavior continues, he or she will receive a check on the class behavior grid which is kept on a clipboard on my desk. The checkmarks are cumulative for the week. The following indicates consequences: 3 checks - Loss of recess/free time 6 checks - Loss of 2 recesses/free times 9 checks - Loss of 3 recesses/free times 10 checks - Principal informed, parents contacted As an incentive to encourage acceptable behavior, children are able to earn tickets for good behavior. Students "caught being good" receive a ticket that goes into a collection jar for a weekly prize drawing. Children never know when I may choose to give a ticket. As a whole class incentive, I have a marble jar on my desk. The class earns marbles for exceptional behavior. Other faculty and staff compliments on the class would be worthy of a marble. Once the jar is full, we will vote on a special activity to celebrate such as a movie or pizza party. |
