Greetings and salutations!

My name is Makenzee Bruce, and I am currently a senior in the BA/MST Adolescence Education Program with a concentration in Social Studies at SUNY Plattsburgh. I also have a minor in French.
I was born and raised in the Adirondack Mountains, and I will always call them my home.
I graduated from high school in Lake Placid, New York, which is one of only three locations that has hosted the Winter Olympics more than once (in 1932 and 1980).
I have been studying at SUNY Plattsburgh since the Fall 2013 semester, and despite its difficulties, going to school here has been everything that I could have ever dreamed of and more.
I have been awarded a Killam Fellowship that will allow me to spend the Spring 2017 semester abroad at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Canada, and I can hardly contain my enthusiasm about going abroad.

I didn't actually decide that I wanted to become a teacher until my senior year of high school. I hadn't given as much thought to my future as I should have by that point, and when the decision was finally right in front of me, I had to choose almost immediately.
Once I started thinking about what I wanted to do, the decision to become a teacher was a fairly simple one.
One of my social studies teachers in high school, who previously attended SUNY Plattsburgh, is one of my biggest inspirations in choosing to become a social studies teacher.
My favorite subject in high school had always been social studies, and it also happened to be one of the ones that I was the best at.
