Dear Student,

The purpose of the Traveling Bag to expand and broaden your vocabulary, and expose you to the cultural traditions in Spanish-Speaking countries.  The focus on this particular bag is to introduce you to an important holiday in Spanish-Speabking countries: Las Navidades.  The holidays consist of various activities and traditions, and you will get a glimpse of these with the resources contained in the bag.

The Traveling Bag contains an expanded list of reading and activities you can do outside of the classroom by yourself or with a parent.  It contains activities such as crossword puzzles, word searches, reading articles, writing activities, and crack the code puzzles. It also includes cultural information such as songs, recipes, and crafts.  The written activities should not take more than 20~30 minutes each.  The craft and recipes will take preparation time that will vary by the project.

Required Activities:  Read the article "Christmas in Mexico" and write a short paragraph (5 sentences) comparing their own traditions with those mentioned in the article, deletreando, mix and match, Christmas carol, read "El Grinch que Robó la Navidad", and "El Milagro de la Primera Flor de Noche Buena"

Optional Activities:  Crack the Code, Christmas Advertisement, Rosca de Reyes (recipe), Galletas de Azúcar (recipe) and Christmas Rap.

The Journal Notebook is for you and your parents to write what you did and what you most enjoyed.

You will have the Traveling Bag for a total of one week; it is due on Fridays.

If you or your parents have any questions regarding the reading or activities, feel free to contact me at my email address listed below.
