Hi, my name is Kathryn Weiss. I am 22 years old and attend SUNY Plattsburgh College. I am in the five-year program for my history/education major. At the end of this year I will have completed my undergraduate and my masters for history and education. I was born and raised in Rockland County, New York. I live about 45mintues from New York City. Both of my sisters live in New York City and I am able to visit them a lot. I will also be living with them next semester while I student teach in Manhattan. I am the youngest of three sisters. I am very close with my sisters and the rest of my family. My mother is a 7th grade English teacher. She has really taught me so many things and has inspired me to become a teacher as well. My father is business man who works with insurance companies. He has taught me so many valuable lessons and has really shaped the person that I am today. I don’t know what I would do without my family; they mean everything to me. I can’t forget to mention one of my favorite family members who is my pet dog, Molly. Molly is a Springer spaniel, who is also ready to play, eat, and sleep. She is the best companion I had growing up in my house. She is starting to get older but has definitely not lost her personality. I am very grateful for an amazing support system and truly appreciate my family very much.

Throughout the years I have taken up many different hobbies. My Dad really encouraged me to play lots of sports. This could have been because there were no boys in the house and I was considered the more athletic one of my sisters. Since I can remember I have been playing all different types of sports. Some of the sports that I have played and continue to play are field hockey, basketball, softball, tennis, swimming, and lacrosse. I truly love sports and being as active as I can. I also have become a very big reader. My mother has always encouraged me to be a reader and really introduced me to some wonderful literature works. Some of my favorite literature works include The Book Thief, Thousand Splendid Sons, The Girl with the Dragoon Tattoo, and many more books. I try to read every day for at least a half hour. Reading has made me open my mind a lot more and once I get into a good book I can’t put it down. I usually read most of my books during summer, when I am life guarding. I have been a lifeguard for about 6 years and also work at the local bakery in my town. I am excited to start student teaching and really begin what I have always wanted to do, teach.
