My Teaching Philosophy

As a teacher, my goal is to make science exciting and relevant for my students and to encourage them to think more deeply about it than they are required to do for standardized tests.  I know that not all students will love biology, but I believe I can show them how it is applicable to their life, and I hope that I can make the learning process fun for them, even if the material is not.
All the scientific knowledge that we have today is taught as fact because there is evidence to support it and it has not yet been disproved.   I was not introduced to this idea until I took Philosophy of Science in college, but I plan to introduce the concept of science as a process to my students at a much younger age.  I want to teach my students to become critical thinkers who will not just accept the facts they are given, but will question them and add their own theories.  I plan to bring recent findings in to supplement the textbook, and would love to do small research projects so students realize that they can add to the scientific body of knowledge themselves.  I want to treat my students as scientists, not just science learners.

Class Rules

Under construction...

My policy is to make the class rules with my students on the first day of class.  They will be posted here after we decide on them together.
