About Me
I have recently completed my course work
at Plattsburgh State University in the MST for Adolescent Education program.
My undergraduate degree is a Bachelors of Science in Biology and was
completed at Plattsburgh State University in December of 2007.
My introduction to teaching began in high school where I
tutored my peers in the sciences. Later I became involved in teaching basic
literacy skills to adults through the Girl Scouts. That was one of the most
rewarding experiences in my life and I have continued to tutor adults
through the Literacy Volunteers of America in Clinton County.
I was
involved in College for Every Student at Northern Adirondack Central High
School in Spring of 2008. I completed a mentoring workshop where I learned very practical ways
for relating to high school students.
I also took part in a substitute teacher workshop that was
given by Dr. Pete Atchinson. In this workshop, I was given a wealth of
information on classroom management. We then practiced what we were taught
by volunteering to substitute in the local schools for a day. The techniques
we were given are very useful and convenient.
I have recently finished my Field Placement at Saranac Middle
School in Mrs. Lori Newell's seventh grade classroom. The experience was
invaluable to my development as a teacher. I was able to observe and
implement classroom management skills that I have been taught about in
theory.
