     Lets Celebrate Black History Month
Introduction

Welcome to our unit on Black History. Throughout the next couple weeks we will be
learning about important dates and events in Black History throughout the United
States, as well as writing a report about an important, influential and
 famous Black American.

Task

There are three different activities that will need to be completed by the end of this unit.
1.) A timeline worksheet of important events and dates using specified websites.
2.) Create a postage stamp of yourself using a digital camera and
Microsoft Publisher.
3.) Choose a famous Black American and write a report
about them. This will then be presented to the class.

 Activity 1

With a partner go to the following websites to complete the Timeline worksheet below.
When Completed please print and turn in to the teacher.

Activity 2

A number of famous Black Americans have been honored with United States Postage Stamps.
I would like you to use a digital camera and have your partner take a picture. You will then
need to upload the picture onto the computer and print your picture out. After your
picture is printed paste onto construction paper and create your own postage stamp.
I want to see things that you are interested in on your stamp

From the list below you will pick a Famous Black American to write a report on (Needs to be Okayed by teacher
before you begin research). Read the Evaluation Rubric below to find out what needs to be included in your
report. I have provided you with a list of websites that you may use to find information. Websites are not the
only source of information that you are allowed to use. Encyclopedias, books, magazines and other sources
can be used. This report will require a couple of drafts so I will provide time in class everyday to work on it,
but work does need to be completed at home as well.
