Blog # 4: Podcasting and Aggregators

I feel that aggregators and pod casts are both useful and interesting technologies. I have used pod casts before for my own personal use but never have implemented them into a lesson. Pod casts come in such a variety or topics and would be very beneficial I feel for students to use. Many pod casts are not created for the purpose of education but the content of some of them go along with educational topics.

I have never heard of aggregators before reading about them. I think they would be useful especially for individuals who take online courses.  Both of these types of technologies have already started to play such a huge part in main stream media. I believe that if teachers take the time to create their own pod casts and aggregators or even have the students create their own students would enjoy them even more.

Blog #3: Mass Media Law

After I read this article I learned a lot about copyrights that I did not know before. I did know some stuff about copyrights but I really had no clue how far it extended. I am big on looking up music I like and downloading it, but now I am a lot more careful and what I am downloading. I am also more careful not just with music but with any information and pictures I find online that I would like to incorporate into projects I do or reports I write.

Companies are fighting a never ending battle I feel. Peers are always going to be sharing with their peers, not matter how hard companies for to stop it. I feel that many people just don’t realize or think that copyrights exist because they think if they bought the music then it is theirs to pass around.

Blog #2: Adaptive and Assistive Technology

Adaptive and assistive technologies are such amazing tools. They can allow an individual with severe disabilities to succeed in their education and everyday life. Section 508 requires that electronic and information technologies be accessible to people with disabilities.  It is amazing to see that our country has come so far in the field of Special Education and that everyone will receive the education they deserve. This field seems to keep growing and new technologies are coming out everyday some examples are the brail atlas, brail printer, and books on tape. Our campus has a wonderful student support system and in our special education classes our teacher really do a great job to inform us about all the different technologies. This field is so exciting and I cant wait to see what the future has for new technologies.

Blog #1: Broadcasting, Cable, the Internet and Beyond

It is amazing to see how far our world of internet has come since I was little. I remember having to use the old Macintosh computers that only had a very limited about of colors and were very slow. The internet has made our world advance in so many ways and it is so interesting to see all the stuff that can be done on it now. I did not realize that the United States is not one of the frontrunners in the world of the internet and computer technologies.

The internet can be an amazing place or it can also be a dangerous place. It allows us to find out information and communicate with others. But if it comes into the wrong hands it can be taken advantage of and abused. Children need to be supervised when allowed on the internet because there are many inappropriate places that children can wind up in. As a future teacher I feel we need to keep a close eye on our students and stress how important parental discretion is needed.
