I began my pursuit as teacher before I finished high school. I took a summer job as a teacher's aide at my local BOCES. I found it to be not only rewarding but fun and ever since then, 2005, I have gone back every summer to help out the teachers. The popoulation I worked with were younger kids, around 8-10, who were generally autistic. After my second year in college I began to work with a special education classroom in a high school a few towns away from me. These students were much older, average age about 16, and I also interned in the communications grants and research department for the school distericts. My job was to help with the budget, keep track of the grants and money that was coming in and out of the school systems, news letters, and maintance of the website. When I began my tenure at Plattsburgh State I started to work with many of the local schools, by becmong a memebr of the service corps here at plattsburgh. Through this organization I began working with the champlain valley family center which was located in oak street elemtary. I also started to tutor and mentor children in oak street.
