Genetic Engineering Research Project:
Introduction and Instructions
For this part of the genetic engineering unit, you will each be conducting a research project on some of the more interesting and sometimes controversial topics in genetic engineering. There will be two parts to this research project: a research paper and a Poster or PowerPoint presentation – both are due Tuesday, March 6!!
To start your research, you can look in some magazines in the library or do web searches. Here are some good websites to start with:
ü Wikipedia – an online encyclopedia – also provides links for each topic
ü How Stuff Works
ü Access Excellence – some topics are covered here

Research Paper
Requirements for research paper:
ü 1-3 pages in length
ü typed, double-spaced, 12-point font, 1 inch margins
ü Include all of the information asked on your topic index card
ü Include extra information not included on your topic index card
ü Have sources from both websites and print sources (newspapers or magazines) that are reliable!
o Try to use .org or .gov sites. If you must, use .com sites with caution - they may be biased!
ü Include a bibliography with proper format:
o Website:

o Magazine:

Poster or PowerPoint Presentation
Requirements for Presentation:
ü Poster or Powerpoint should have all information asked on your topic index card
ü Poster or Powerpoint should have extra information not asked on your topic index card
ü Poster or Powerpoint should have relevant drawings, pictures, and/or photographs
ü Presentation should be 4-5 minutes long, clear and REHEARSED.
ü Presentation should reflect the knowledge that you gained about your topic.
