Blog #4- Videos and Student Support Services
I learned that A &AT makes much more than the traditional machines. It helps lightening, food processing, toys and games, and packaging systems to name a few. They have helped our technological world as we know it today.
I believe it is vital for the public to support these companies because the public knows what it needs in the work place. No one else besides the workers really knows what they need to accommodate their lives.
I see A&AT evolving to households and other public places besides the workplace. It would be nice for equipment to be placed in public places that will aide in peoples’ needs to help them in their needs.
I really liked the trip to Student Support Services. I learned a lot about what they do and who they help. It was very informative and showed me a lot of technology that I would have never otherwise seen.
After viewing the videos, I realized how much technology is worked into our classrooms. It should be this way because technology helps the teacher. It does not and will not replace the teacher but it is a big part in our classrooms today with advancing tools.
Blog #3-Podcasting to the World
I think podcasting is a great educational tool. Teachers can use this to teach their students in a fun and interesting manner but still making it educational. Students can feel interactive by seeing or hearing something that they usually would not be able to hear. It gives them insight in the world. For teachers the concept is easy to do and easy to teach.
I like aggregators. They have all the education and information in one place and that is much more easier to use for teachers.
I would use one in my classroom if I had limited time and could not search, make, or view a podcast.
I think there is a big educational value to podcasts. They let children expertise something that they normally would not or would never be able to. Bringing the outside world into the classroom is something that I strive for. Real life experiences teach children and let them learn from a primary source.
I definitely could. I would want them to know how to make their own incase there ever came a time where they would like to let people know what they think or how they feel. It would be something they could use for the rest of their lives. I would like to make my own and show students that anyone can do it and so can they.
I view this project as positive. I think the outside media might take a little while to get used to it because now they are not just the only primary sources. Regular people can be primary sources for others all over the world if they are published on the web. It might take a long time for others to catch on but I am sure they will.
I think students will love podcasts because it is something different then listening to a teacher talk or reading out of a textbook. They might be surprised that this is actually a learning experience but they will understand that it is helpful in the long run. I believe they will not be able to get enough.
I hope it is here to stay because I think it is a wonderful teaching tool and easy to make and use. Teachers need things like this to entice their students to learn.
I see many benefits to using them because everything is included in the tool you are using. If you are a teacher then you would want something that is combined like that because it is less hassle and less confusing for the kids to use. On the other hand it does not teach kids how to surf and find things on their own.
As I stated before, I like using an aggregator because it is all condensed into one place. It is convenient and easy to use.
Blog #2- Mass Media Law
After reading this article, I found out many things about plagiarism and the laws around it. I knew nothing about what constitutes and what does not as to what can be copy written or not. I knew that facts could not be copy written, but I did not even think of the idea notion. Ideas cannot be copy written. I liked reading about the Fair Use Act because as an English major it is nice to know what is fair to copy or not under the law. I again did not know much about the law. I am aware of plagiarism because I stress to my students the importance of not doing this. People work hard for what they write and should not have other people copying their work.
After reading this article I am more aware of the idea of copy writes. I tend to take my own advice for my students and be cautious of plagiarism. People work hard for their work and do not deserve others stealing the credit.
This is an interesting subject because I admit it. I have used a P2P file sharing program. I understand now why people do not want the public to use these because it is just like a book. People should not steal it and take credit for it just like written documents. I honestly think now that the RIAA and the Courts should crack down on the file sharing programs and users.
I like it because it gives the author and person who copy wrote the material choices. It enables them to copy write what they wish and have the other material be available to the pubic to use. The author deserves that right because they have worked hard and it is theirs so they should have the right to do what they wish. Creative Commons is helping authors to do this.
Blog #1- Broadcasting, Cable, the Internet, and Beyond
My views have changed about the internet after reading this article because I realize that the internet and origins of the internet have been around a lot longer than I would have expected. It seems to have ideas from the 70’s that helped it to grow into what it is today. After reading this article I appreciate the internet more. I realize it is something that people now could not live without.
My online habits have changed now because when I go to a website I tend to think about who is behind this website and think of what people not even 15 years ago would have done if they did not have this website. It is interesting to think about because people would not have information like we have available to quickly and as easy.
I learned that the internet is not run by one single person but works because it is launched by many people. There are service providers, the World Wide Web consortium, and many other people that make sure the internet runs smoothly and people get the information that they need.
I have a fear that too many people will have the internet. That sounds weird and bad to say but some people that should not have the internet do. They use the internet for distasteful things and harmful things to other people. If the internet is used as a tool for hurt then it is not good. If it comes to it then the government may be forced to consider some blocking tools for the internet because people have taken it to an extreme.
I see people being able to learn a lot fast and cheap. These people will be able to learn more because of the internet’s availability. It is readily available and people do not have to do as much to get information. On the other hand, that is bad because people will believe everything that is on the internet and in some cases things that are stated on the internet are untrue. We want people to have correct information. This is why people need to investigate the credibility of the sites they are using before agreeing with what they see.
I see the internet growing greatly and getting people knowledge and skills. I do not want the internet to be the only source people use. We still need to conduct interviews and look at primary sources for our information.
