WORK EXPERIENCE
2004-2006 Executive Producer, Mountain Lake PBS In charge of the Production Department including staff, budget, program production, project development, grant writing, and fundraising. Substantially increased production with two new series; Mountain Lake Journal, and Adirondack Outdoors; and documentaries on Arto Monaco, the Wild Center, and the impact of mercury pollution on the common loon.
1983-2004 Producer, NewsHour w/ Jim Lehrer For twenty one years, produced a wide variety of magazine length documentary stories about politics, the economy, education, environmental and urban issues, foreign policy, defense, and the arts; collaborating with correspondents Gwen Ifill, Ray Suarez, Judy Woodruff, Margaret Warner, and Paul Solman among others. Responsibilities also included producing major interviews with presidents, foreign heads of state, and various world leaders. 1998-2000 producer, NewsHour health unit.
1982-1984 Independent Producer/Director Collaborated on a one-hour documentary for PBS on the changing American South. Was U.S. producer for daily hour-long program with correspondent Godfrey Hodgson on Channel 4, British Independent Television News. Stories included 1982 election coverage, state of the American economy, Reagan’s economics, an American view of a British spy scandal.
1977-1982 Producer, ABC News: 20/20 Produced “If You Were President”, a one hour special edition of a simulated decision making process during a terrorist crisis, in collaboration with the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Other stories included an investigation of FBI/KKK informant Gary Thomas Rowe, story changed the historical record substantially; a primer on the intelligence war with Ted Koppel; a tainted narcotics investigation, transfer of technology to the Soviets, a drug abuse insurance scam, and help for stutterers.
1976-1977 Producer, Associate Producer WETA-TV Produced magazine length stories on presidential politics for the PBS series USA, occasionally an on-air reporter. Produced PBS coverage of presidential debates. Produced a dozen musical essays for children’s programming. Associate Producer for documentary “Kissinger in Retrospect”.
1972- 1976 Associate Producer, Researcher, Production Assistant, National Public Affairs Center for Television Researched, assisted in shooting and editing of PBS public affairs programs. Produced award winning animated historical essay on press freedom. Was associate producer for documentaries on parole and energy, and series America ’73. Assisted videotape editing of Watergate and impeachment hearings. Production assistant on series A Public Affair: Election ’72.
1969-1971 Production Trainee, WMAL-TV, Washington, DC Worked as associate director, associate producer for 6 o’clock and 11 o’clock news. Also worked as news film editor, animator, stage manager, and photographer.
