Schools are for students to learn and not for teachers to have jobs”

- Dr. Margaret Maugham

After hearing this, I focus my lesson plans and future teaching methods on this quote. I believe this it is essential to know that we as educator are here for our students and their well being. Children are our priority in this field of work. For this reason, I feel my classroom learning environment has to be filled with enthusiastic and will to learn. I want my students to feel safe, respected, welcomed in their classroom. If students don’t have this they will be more resistant and uncomfortable to learn. Another component that is important to have is resources. I know that throughout my elementary school years, there weren’t many books for all the students and especially our science department lacked tools for experiments. How are we expected to teach and students to learn if we don’t have the quality and quantity of resources. My classroom will give all students the many resources they need to achieve in my class as well as in their future learning.

I believe that the educational system has to be prepared for all types of children. When observing my former junior high school in Brooklyn, New York, I saw the lack of resources for students with learning disabilities as well as all the students within that school. We need to give our future society (our students), the key components to achieve and make our society a better one. I believe that the special education system needs improvement. We need to offer our students explicit instruction, where we reinforce what we've taught over and over. We need to be patient and take time educating our students. I do understand that certain standardized test and deadlines for curriculum are pushed on teachers, but we have to realize, as a whole that educating our students is our number one priority. I believe that students are sort of like our own children when they are in our classroom. Don't we want our children to receive the best help they can get and succeed to their up most? I know I do. Overall, “we as educator present the past , teach the present and shape the future”. We should always keep in mind that we shape the future, and we should educate to the fullness and provide extra help when needed. These students with disabilities or not are our future.
