Introduction
Welcome my fabulous 4th graders! Today you are about to go on a WebQuest into the World of POLYGONS!

Task
Your job will be to figure what a polygon is, give three examples and write a story about it.

Task 1:
Your first task is to use the websites below to answer the questions provided on a worksheet. Click here to open the worksheet.

1- Math is Fun- Please use the 1st definition & then scroll down to Names of Polygons. You may only use up to 12.
2- Ask.com -definition
3- Math.com - You only need to go up to step 2.

Task 2:
Your second task is to write a short story about a polygon of your choice. In your story you must include the name of your polygon, how many sides it has, a real life example and anything else you want to say about it. You must also provide at least one picture of your polygon and label it. Be sure to put your name at the top, because you will be handing this into me for grading. See Rubric Below in the evaluation section.

Here are 2 examples of stories.
Bad Example, this is not what your story should look like.
Good Example, what your story should look like.

Information
You should remember that learning about shapes is not just for fun. Polygons are all around us and involved in our everyday lives and it is important that you realize this. By writing about polygons and providing real life examples of them, if you can, will help you see that they really are all around us!

Synthesis
You have successfully completed the World of Polygons WebQuest!

Let's make sure you remembered to:

1. Used the websites I provided for you.
2.  Answered all questions on the polygon worksheet, printed it off and handed it in.
3. Used Microsoft Word to create a story about your polygon and drew at least one picture and labeled it.
4. Looked to see if your story follows the rubric.
5. Printed out your polygon story for grading.

Now that all the work is completed we will share are polygons with the class and school by reading them to the class and hanging them in the hallway for everyone to see!

Next stop on our mathematical adventures is perimeter and area!

Conclusion
This lesson is designed for 4th graders. Since I am in a 4th grade classroom now, I noticed that students are having a lot of trouble with polygons. I think that this lesson would benefit them and help them see the bigger picture. We all see polygons on a daily basis it's just a matter if we notice them.

Evaluation
As my students you will be required to print out your two tasks. Task 1 will be handed in today, be sure to print out your answers and your name is on the top, you will be graded out of 5 points. Task 2 will be handed in tomorrow and will be graded based on a rubric. Please click here to make sure you have everything you need.

*NOTE: I will be watching to see if you are using the proper websites, if you fail to use only the websites I provided for you, you will lose points on your worksheet.
