About Me
Lindsay Brown
I was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. Both my parents are immigrants to Canada, my mother from Jamaica and my father from England. During my formative years I was educated in the public school system but enrolled in the French Immersion program. I continued in the program through to grade twelve when I graduated high school with a certificate in bilingualism. Throughout grade school I was busy like most kids and I was enrolled in Sparks, Brownies and then Girl Guides. I took music lessons and during this period I was a participant in two music festivals and won two awards. I now play the piano and read music. I took swimming lessons and progressed to the life saving level. I played soccer from house league to the provincial level but my favourite of all was ice hockey. From the age of four I started to play house league hockey in a boy’s league because girl’s hockey wasn’t that strong at this time. I played boys hockey until I was ten years old at the representative level. I travelled throughout Ontario playing in tournaments and it was fun winning MVP awards against the boys. Then I moved to girl’s hockey and played in the highest league for girls in Ontario with the Markham-Stouffville Stars Hockey Club until I was eighteen. During my last two years of girl’s hockey I was scouted by my present coach, Coach Houle of Plattsburgh state University. I am now a Captain and in my senior year at Plattsburgh State. We participated in the National Finals for the past three years winning the last two back to back national championships. I am having so much fun that I’m not looking forward to the final game of my hockey career, it’s the best.
In order to be able to enjoy all of these fun times I had to work and did many jobs to have money to attend University. I worked in a Solutions store in Toronto assembling shelving displays and doing cash. I taught at hockey schools with Scarborough Parks and Recreation and most recently I taught at the YMCA at their summer camp for kids. During my free time I enjoy visiting my old school friends, going to the movies, reading books - I really enjoy reading John Grisham books. My most favourite activity is music, listening, down loading and making CD’s and one day I would like to write music for recording.
I have an older brother Christopher, who also played sports throughout his formative years and went on to become a member and Captain of the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles hockey team. He has since graduated and is now a first year student at St George Medical School in Grenada.
On a personal note I have been privileged to have won many awards during my youth. However, none can compare to winning the Women’s Division III national title twice in the USA, or being named to the second team ECAC in 2007 and most recently, being recognized for my academic achievement and receiving the honour of making the Dean’s List in 2008.
After graduation I plan on pursuing my goal of becoming an English teacher in High school and being able to pass along all of the positive things that I have had the privilege to experience throughout my life.
