Blog #4 Birth of the internet:
The internet has grown so much over the years and has become more complex. Today so many people rely on the internet for information, communication, and many other things. Thinking back, I realized that we did not have computers when I was in elementary. The library may have had some but not a lot. When I got into the middle school other places like the computer room and the library had computers and that was because all students were required to take a typing class. Now a day it is weird for any classroom to not have a computer and internet access. It is amazing to think how the internet has grown in just the past 10 years. It has gone from dial up to wireless and there are many other updates. I think that computers and the internet are great for children to learn to use. They can be great resources to help the students find information. It is also very helpful for teachers as well. It is a great way to find ideas for lesson plans or other activities. It is important that the children are supervised when using the internet and for them to learn the websites they can and cannot get onto.
Blog #3 Mass Media Law:
I learned a lot about the Mass Media Law by taking EDU 359. I always knew that plagiarism is taken very seriously. It could and has been a big problem in today's society. I am always very careful about giving full credit to people when I use their ideas in my work, however, a people do not think about copy right laws and using citations when getting information. There are very serious consequences when dealing with plagiarism. Some consequences are, students can be kicked out of school and professionals can lose their jobs. Many do not intentionally plagiarize but because they did not cite properly or read copy right laws and licenses, they end up plagiarizing. Before taking EDU 359, I never really thought about copy right laws, especially with pictures. In today’s world, it is import to know about plagiarism and how to avoid it and how important it is to cite correctly. It is important to teach students the proper way to cite resources and to read licenses and copy right laws.
Blog #2: Adaptive and Assistive Technology:
I learned a lot about assistive and adaptive technology in my EDS 482 class. It is a great way for some students with disabilities to learn and succeed in school. One of the most common technologies I learned about is the brail translator. This piece of technology allows visually impaired children to have their reading materials translated into brail. This gives these students the ability to use texts that they need in school. Another common type of adaptive or assistive technology is note takers. This is when a person comes in and takes notes for the child with the disability who is unable to take notes on their own. This also allows the child to succeed in school. Plattsburgh State also offers a lot of adaptive or assistive technology. Some things they offer are tutoring services, note takers, books on tapes, and brail.
Blog #1: Pod casting:
I never heard of pod casting until I took EDU 357. In the class our professor had us look up information on pod casting. I really like the idea of pod casting, and I think it is a good idea to use in the classroom. As a future teacher I can see myself using pod casting with my students. I think it is very convenient that you can download them to your portable device or a computer. You may not always have internet access in your classroom but if it is on a portable device, you can use it anywhere. It is also a great way for students to get information, listen to radio stations, and listen to TV programs. It is also great that you can find a pod cast on just about any topic.
