Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is simple; I want to inspire students to take accountability for their own learning. Growing up in the Fort Greene projects of Brooklyn, it was easy to become sucked into the unforgotten world.
If my teachers, family and community weren’t there to support my educational needs, I don’t think I would be the person I am today.
They allowed me to make my own decisions and to be accountable for those decisions instead of blaming faults on others.
This scaffolding was successful, because I was able to further my academia in numerous ways without pigeonholing myself into one subject.
Personally, education is basically taking a reflection of oneself and seeing oneself grow within education.

In my classrooms, I want to create a safe learning environment where students will learn how to be respectful to learning about and from each other.
This will allow students to bridge gaps and realize that schools were built with hopes of learning from each other.

In the 21st century, technology has become the way of life for many students, so I would like to incorporate the interest of my students and allow them to shape their own educational experience.
As an English teacher, I want to teach students how to relate their real-world experiences to the curriculum of the class by incorporating Publisher, Blender and other software mediums,
so each individual will receive the vital skills and tools needed to be successful. This will allow students to build a stronger connection to their works as well as merging their world through academia.

"The whole object of education is...to develop the mind. The mind should be a thing that works"
Sherwood Anderson (1876–1941) American novelist and short story writer
