Blog # 4 – Podcasting and Aggregators

To be honest, I had never learned about podcasts or aggregators until taking college classes.  I find them both to be beneficial to education even if their topic isn’t related to education in particular.  They can be very beneficial to teachers and students in education.  They are great technologies that can make learning information much more interesting to students and can often take less time for teachers to implement than other resources.  They come in a variety of topics so students can easily relate and be interested in what they are learning.

Blog # 3 – Mass Media Law

I learned a lot by reading articles about copyright that I hadn’t previously known.  I used to download music “for free” until the big Napster problem came about in the media.  Since then, I’ve been very careful on what I download or use.  I didn’t realize that they went to as far or as in depth that that do.  I have borrowed pictures from various websites for presentations and what not without realizing that there could be consequences for my actions.  I didn’t realize that they were also copyrighted and that there were special ways to copyright my material so others couldn’t use it.  I think that copyrighting is a smart way to keep you stuff, yours and to keep others from trying to use your stuff as theirs.

Blog # 2 – Adaptive and Assistive Technology

Section 508 requires Federal agencies’ electronic and information technology is accessible to people with disabilities.  Even though it’s been done gradually, it’s great the laws have been made for people with disabilities to be able to what others can in various activities of everyday life.  With the use of adaptive and assistive technology, people with disabilities such as visual and hearing impairments are able to receive information that they otherwise wouldn’t be able to.  Adaptive and assistive technology can be as simple as increasing font size to having a special mouse that reads print for those with visual impairments.  It’s amazing what has come about in the world of technology over the years!

Blog # 1 – Broadcasting, Cable, the Internet, and Beyond

It’s amazing to see the way technology has advanced over the years such as the internet.  My grandparents still have an old computer from when they first came out to the public and it’s amazing to see how that has turned into the computers that are out now.  How they used to be so slow and had limited space and programs to having a huge capacity with a variety of programs and options to choose from.

It’s even crazy to compare how cable used to be with bunny ears to the various types that are out now such as digital cable and dish.  From having a few channels in black and white to having hundreds of channels in color and now even HD.  It’s interesting to think about what technologies people will come out with in the next 10, 20, even 50 years.
